The Tramp has fallen for a blind flower girl. In order to pay for her surgery, the Tramp sweeps the street and does boxing for money. One day a drunken millionaire gives the Tramp a fortune, the Tramp uses it to pay for the girl’s surgery. But when the millionaire comes to his sense, he accuses the Tramp of theft and throws him into jail. The blind girl keeps thinking that it was the millionaire who has helped her…

City Lights has been ranked in the second place in Sight and Sound’s first Top Ten List in 1952 and listed in the US Library of Congress’ registry in 1991. It was also selected as 100 Greatest Films by American Film Institute.
