With her magical hair "Mai Mai", Shinko likes to fantasise about the town of Mitajiri a thousand years back. Because of this magical power, she is able to open the heart of the lonely Kiiko, a transferred student from Tokyo. Kiiko soon gets her "Mai Mai" and the two girls embark on a time travel trip back to the ancient city.

An adaptation from the award-winning novel by Takagi Nobuko, directed by Katabuchi Sunao, a protege of Miyazaki Hayao. It is a coming-of-age story of two friends full of imaginations.
