Fanshen hits the stage - Fredric Mao's Mentoring Project Final Stage
When: April 27-29, 2012, 8pm
Where: Macao Cultural Centre - Small Auditorium
The Macao Cultural Centre presents this April 27-29, Fanshen, a play by British playwright David Hare. The performance is the final stage of "Fredric Mao's Theatre Mentoring Project" launched last year by CCM to continue its supporting of local artists, boosting new creative synergies.
Mao is one of Asia's most recognized theatre directors and five times winner of the "Best Director" prize at the Hong Kong Drama Awards amongst many other accolades. Local talents, Philip Chan and Johnny Tam, were the first selected mentees for this project. Graduates of Beijing's Central Academy of Drama and the Shanghai Theatre Academy respectively, Philip and Johnny are now under Mao's guidance and will be co-directing the staging of "Fanshen". The two local directors are working with a team play of 11 local actors with diverse levels of experience and enormous potential, making this one of the best ensembles of the kind ever put together in our city. Macao's "Fanshen" will be the Cantonese world premiere of Hire's timeless classic.

This play is an adaptation of the documentary book of the same title by American scholar William Hinton. It talks about a firsthand experience reporting to a period the author spent as an observer at a village in the Chinese Shanxi Province, in 1945. Fanshen is organized by the Macao Cultural Centre and it will be staged at the Small Auditorium in three performances.
