Transjourney 2012 Future Media Festival

The development of new media art in Taiwan in recent years has gradually become a significant doctrine in the field of art. However, compared to other advanced countries our nation has had a late start. Related art forms, technological development, and discussions on aesthetics have not yet become mature. Moreover, the development of trends in the global cultural and creative industries has also created a change in the essence of the future of new media art. In these times where global changes happen rapidly, prospects will be more challenging for artists who wish to use new media as their artistic practice. Therefore, continuously thought and reflection on the contemporary meaning of new media art, as well as cultural policies and each important environmental change, will have a decisive influence on future cultural development and possibilities.

With the present launch of the Transjourney – 2012 Future Media Festival, the Future Media Symposium, which was planned by the Center for Art and Technology, TNUA as well as the Digital Art Foundation, will have two major themes: The History and Orientation of the Development of Taiwan's Digital Art and The Practice and Future of Digital Media Arts. By using the ideas from participating artists, the Symposium attempts to provide a direction for ways to deal with challenges faced by the next generation of future media practice. This Symposium has invited two important institution experts from Asia to offer their expertise: Nam June Pail Art Center's Manu Park from South Korean, and Yokohama Museum of Art's chief curator Taro Amano from Japan. Through the benefit of their work, we hope to not only learn a great deal but also create opportunities to exchange experiences.
