Lu Bu Test-rides Steed
The story takes place during the Three Kingdoms period, Lu Bu, a young general famous for his valiant fighting skills, is given a fine steed that is said to be able to run for a thousand miles within a day. Happily he takes it to the open fields with his entourage to try to ride it. The steed, which is born defiant and refuses to succumb to orders, turns out to be very hard to tame. But Lu rises to the challenge, and by sheer horsemanship overcomes the animal and returns to the camp in triumph.

 

Lu An Zhou
Lu, a great general of Sung Dynasty, asks his wife and son flee the town so that he can fight ferociously with the enemy. Dedicated to staying with Lu, his wife passes their children to a nunnery. When Lu takes refuges at home he is startled to learn her presence, who eventually takes her life to goad his husband’s spirit.

 

Spectral Marriage from Dream in Peony Pavilion
Du Liniang, the only daughter of Ming official Du Bao, is beautiful and intelligent. One day, she falls asleep at Peony Pavilion. She dreams about a scholar walking towards her with a willow branch in hand, and they spend a good time together on the lakeside. However, she is soon awakened by a sudden shower of fallen flowers. She then falls sick and dies.

Yet her spirit lingers, and her love still burns for the scholar. Three years later at Plum Blossom Nunnery, Liniang’s spirit meets a scholar called Liu Mengmei, whom she recognises as the man in her dream. Mengmei brings her back to life by breaking open her coffin.

 

Wu Song Slays His Sister-in-law
Orphaned as a child, Wu Song has a close bond with his only brother, Wu Da, who is like a father to him. After slaying a tiger with his bare hands, Wu Song became an overnight hero.

Wu Da is married to a beautiful but lascivious woman, Pan Jinlian, who spurns him for his ugliness. When she meets the sturdily built Wu Song, she instantly hankers after him. But when her attempt to seduce him is met with cold reproach, she truns her attention to the wealthy playboy Ximen Qing. With Old Granny Wang as a go-between, the two carry on a torrid affair. When their liaison is discovered by Wu Da, they poison him.

When Wu Song returns from afar to find his brother dead, he swears to find the culprit. Defying the local magistrate who has been bribed by Ximen Qing, he kills him at the Lion’s Inn, and then slays his sister-in-law.

 

The Monkey King Borrows the Magic Fan
The Monkey King escorts the Master on a pilgrimage to the west but is blocked by the flaming Mountain on the way. The Monkey King seeks to borrow the palm-leaf fan from the Iron Fan Princess in a bid to put out the fire, only to be fanned out of sight by her. In order to borrow the fan, the Monkey King has a fierce fight with the Iron Fan Princess…
