“A comedy of manners…without the manners” - Yasmina Reza

Does the masquerade of career, family, and materialistic bliss conceal desolation when love and ideals quietly lose their fairy-tale sheen? This is the question at the heart of Le Dieu du Carnage (God of Carnage), a laugh-out-loud play by contemporary French playwright Yasmina Reza.

Le Dieu du Carnage will be presented by two different and highly regarded local theatre groups; a version in Cantonese by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, and an English version performed by Theatre du Pif.

The play centres around two model couples living in a big city; a lawyer and his trophy wife, and a businessman and an author, who meet to resolve a conflict between their two children. But what begins as a civilised discussion between parents quickly escalates into a dramatic argument.

The gloves come off, dirty laundry gets aired and you will be crying tears of laughter as all-out war ensues.

The winner of numerous awards including Tony for Best Play and the 2009 Laurence Olivier Awards for Best New Comedy, Reza’s brutally funny satire has proved a must-see play, with sold out seasons in the West End and on Broadway, and now delights Hong Kong audiences with two unique presentations.

Running time is about 90 minutes with no intermission. Presented in English with Chinese & English subtitles.
