LE FRENCH MAY ARTS FESTIVAL 2011

法国五月艺术节2011节目表

Le French May Arts Festival returns to embrace Hong Kong as the annual programme kicks off with a wide diversity of high quality cultural performances including 9 exhibitions, 47 performances and 54 screenings taking place across the city from April 15 through to June 23, 2011.

Now entering its 19th edition, the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao, the Alliance Française of Hong Kong and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department are pleased to present the 2011 programme offering a window to explore a mélange of the very best of French culture – visual arts, dance, film, classical and contemporary, music, comedy, multi-arts performances and fashion, as well as culinary arts with Le French GourMay. Arnaud Barthelemy, as the new Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macao said, “We are proud to present this year’s programme as Le French May continues to strengthen connections between France and Hong Kong and allows the Hong Kong community to connect with French artists who represent the diversity of French culture.”

This year’s programme will increase its focus on the contemporary art exhibitions, held in outdoor spaces, museums and galleries across the city, including exhibitions by Bettina Rheims at City Hall and Philippe Ramette on Avenue of Stars. This 19th edition will also celebrate a new generation of international artists who are critically acclaimed in France and abroad, including violinists Laurent Korcia and Renaud Capuçon, pianists Bertrand Chamayou and Frank Braley, the choreographer Mourad Merzouki, and also the hip-hop group IAM. In collaboration with the Alliance Française, Le French May is also introducing a series of truly original multi-arts performance shows, which explore new artistic styles mixing dance, theatre, music, physical performance and multimedia. Following the success of last year’s cinema retrospective “Femmes, Femmes, Femmes”, Le French May will also present a new and ambitious programme in close cooperation with the famous filmmakers Johnnie To and Jacques Audiard that pays tribute to one of France and Hong Kong’s favourite genres – Film Noir – with over 30 films screened throughout June.

As a cultural event catering to all interests, Le French May Arts Festival was developed to reach out to the widest possible audience. This year’s programme will therefore include special workshops, master classes with artists and free cultural events throughout the programme. The full programme of Le French May Arts Festival 2011 is available online at www.frenchmay.com.
