Yesterday Today Tomorrow Still

One of the most socially conscious Hong Kong filmmakers of the 1960's and 70's, director Patrick Lung Kong - who passed away last year at the age of 79 - brings Albert Camus' The Plague to Hong Kong with this controversial film. A mysterious plague breaks out in Hong Kong, killing hundreds of people overnight and bringing the city to its knees. Despite its best efforts, the Government is unable to contain the illness, and chaos consumes the quarantine facilities.

Despite working with a huge cast and a controversial topic, Lung completed the film with location support from the Hong Kong Government. However, the director was forced to make significant cuts to the film after being accused of making references to the 1967 leftist riots. The original director's cut has never been seen to this day, but the existing version of the film is still a riveting and daring film that will hold resonance for Hong Kongers who lived through the 2003 SARS crisis.
