Conductor: Tang Muhai
Cello: Guo Xuewen
Suona: Guo Yazhi

Tang Muhai, or ‘Muhai Tang’ as he is better known in the West, has cut a high profile in the international classical music world, not only because he had the legendary Karajan as mentor, but also because he has a portfolio that would make any conductor proud. Known as ‘the most influential Chinese conductor in the international arena today’, Tang has conducted the Berliner Philharmoniker and the London Philharmonic, among many others, was Chief Conductor of the Finnish National Opera, and Principal Guest Conductor of Hamburg Symphony.

For this concert, he will be leading the Orchestra in the suona concerto written by Zhang Haofu, Damo-Changhe (The River across the Desert), with HKCO’s own alented suona virtuoso and ‘the Number One Suona in China’, Guo Yazhi, as soloist. The Orchestra has also invited Guo Xuewen, former Cello Principal of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, with whom Tang had worked closely when he was conducting there. Gao will perform a famous work by Chen Qigang, Reflet d'un temps disparu (Reflections of a Vanished Time). Feel the rapport between the cello’s bow and the conductor’s baton.
