Yan Huichang will be taking the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, of which he has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for many years, in an insightful interpretation of Zhuang Zhou’s Dream by Zhao Jiping with the world-renowned cellist, Wang Jian, as soloist. Joining them on stage is oboist Huang Zheng, in performing Chen Qigang’s Extase. The Erhu Principal of the Orchestra, Hsin Hsiao-hung will also perform in this concert. The occasion therefore marks a galactic meeting of talents in music.

Yan Huichang

Yan Huichang, who was named a National Class One Conductor at the first-ever Professional Appraisal of China in 1987, won the Jurors’ Award for Conducting at the 2008 China Gold Record Awards and a Literary and Art Works Award of the Chinese Writers' & Artists' Association in Taiwan in 2010. His conducting has been described as “mellifluous and coherent” by the Washington Post, and with “musical precision and charm” by the Vancouver Sun. Other words of praise from the international music critic world confirm his gift as a conductor.
