Zhang Guoyong, currently Vice Chairman of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, President and Artistic Director of the Shanghai Opera House, and a National Class One Conductor of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, is a well-recognized name in the international music world. When he completed his Ph.D. programme in conducting, his supervisor and world-famous conductor, G. Rozhdestvensky told the critics and reporters, "I am awarding Mr. Zhang the highest mark ever for conducting in the history of the School of Music of the Moscow Conservatory. He will surely find his place in any orchestra of the world.” Zhang will be opening the Conductors’ Festival with his inspirational, fiery conducting, and he will be joined on the concert stage by the erhu master, Wang Guotong, who will be playing Flickering of Red Candles and Taixing Mountain Capriccio, and Sibei Weng, the first Chinese flutist to join the woodwind section of the Berliner Philharmoniker, who will be playing Whirling Dance by Chung Yiu-kwong. Expect to see sparks in this exceptional concert!
