Not resting with Streetcar, Brando incarnated yet another iconic role in Elia Kazan's gritty film about unions, corruption and violence. Brando finally won an overdue Oscar for his role as Terry Malloy, where he even overruled Kazan to create some of the film's most famous moments ("I coulda been a contender"). But as in Streetcar, his interactions with other great actors - Karl Malden and Eva Marie Saint - and the power of a script by American genius Budd Schulberg contributed to a film whose politics as well as cinema remain relevant today.
