One Person's Trash Is Another Person's Art Project

一个人的废物是另一个人的艺术项目

In this Salon, GtB founder, Carissa Welton, will tell the story of how she started doing "trash to art" projects in Beijing and finish with a hands-on "trash to art" activity with all attendees.

Greening the Beige (GtB) is a volunteer community event and network. Greening the Beige functions as a public platform that promotes environmental awareness through the arts. GtB promotes artists, organizations, and individuals dedicated to sustainable development in Beijing. All of our events are designed to celebrate innovative, eco-minded, positive projects and creative works. All participating members volunteer their time, energy, and talent to GtB in aims of improving Beijing's urban environment.

Since 2007 GtB has been involved in the following: Hosting innovative environmental programs and events. Facilitating global interaction and providing public information. Supporting youth awareness and ecological ideas. Inspiring environmental artworks throughout China.

Please join this special event for an open exchange of green ideas! Carissa Welton will be delighted to meet you and share a special trash-to-art craft with you.

Guest
Carissa holds a B.A. in Humanities/Asian Art Studies from San Francisco State University. She moved to China in February 2004, where she hosted art and music events in the capital from 2006 - 2011. Her motivation for hosting the first Greening the Beige came from her selection as an installation artist for Burning Man 2007 and researching white pollution in China. Consequently she discovered several artists and community groups in Beijing dedicated to environmental stewardship. The desire to connect her project with these artists in order to make a collective awareness-raising effort developed quite naturally. And what began purely as a labor of love project she intends to develop as a sustainable platform that will serve the Beijing community for years to come.
