"I Create, Therefore I Play" is a sound creation workshop designed for children, teenagers and adults, based mostly on the use of music software and tablet computers.
By growing familiar with software such as GarageBand, Idensity, MUSY, or DM1, participants learn to turn ordinary tablets (such as iPads) into powerful platforms to play virtual instruments, record their improvisations, and work with various sound processing techniques.
This highly innovative workshop series is an occasion for everyone to discover and express their personal musical creativity in a spontaneous, intuitive and digital way, through the use of sequencers, controllers, and touch instruments.
"I Create, Therefore I Play" was selected as one of the top 30 projects (out of 187, from 20 different countries) submitted at the "YEAH! - Young EARopean Awards 2013", in Berlin; it has also been presented at the 2013 Shanghai Electronic Music Week.
Teacher: GAIA MAFFEZZOLI
Gaia has always had a passion for stimulating the artistic creativity of youngsters. After obtaining a degree in Piano and Composition at the Conservatory of Milan, she has dedicated herself to artistic research and musical composition adapted to young people, with a focus on the use of digital tools as a support to creation.
She is currently a teacher of Digital Creation at the Conservatory of Montbéliard (France), and a teacher of Musical Composition at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland in Lugano. Gaia is also a member of France-based Ensemble de musique interactive, a gathering of musicians actively engaged in the making of real-time interactive music, blending instruments, electronics, and audience participation.
