Jockey Club Street Music Series

Street music, distinct with its spontaneity, engages and empowers people with breaths of freedom, injecting aspirations to audiences who blended-in on spot where performances are brought to us unconventionally, interactively and creatively. The Street Music Series co-presented by Kung Music Workshop and the Hong Kong Arts Centre have been sharing the passion for music since 2009, filled with not only enthusiastic local audiences but also visitors around the world. The event has also been listed as 'not-to-be-missed' by international travel guide.

Building on the success, the programme in 2014 will carry on to bring audiences the liberating spirit by a new lineup of 18 concerts in the community, together with music coaching workshops and In-school demonstrations. Thanks to the support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, all the showcases are designed to ignite passion and realise potential in every individual, meanwhile bringing together different groups of people the extraordinary experiences - from the Hong Kong Arts Centre to communities in other districts. Workshops dedicating to local youths encourage them to mingle, learn and have fun with professional musicians, friends from the neighborhood and audiences from all walks of life, empowering them to discover their own inner strengths by immersing in street music. Let the spirit rock on!

Dohnányi Quartet (Classical)
Formed by four versatile and passionate professional musicians from Hong Kong, the Dohnányi Quartet is being recognized as one of the most diversified chamber music groups in the local music scene. The group was named after the Hungarian composer, conductor and pianist Ernő Dohnányi. The Quartet was invited by the Hong Kong Baptist University Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School to serve as visiting artist and help teach and mentor many talented young musicians from the school. Forthcoming performances include recitals at both St John's Cathedral and All Saints' Cathedral.

The Moment in The Rose Garden ( Music and Poetry)
The Moment in The Rose Garden is a new 30-minute piece for string quartet accompanied with a poetry recital. Titled after and inspired by a phrase in the first poem "Burnt Norton" of T. S. Eliot's Four Quartets. The work is composed by Tsui Chin Hung and Kung Chi Shing, featuring Dohnanyi String Quartet, Patrick Lui and Chiara Kung.

UNiXX (Indie Rock)
Formed in 2001, UNiXX released their first album Nasty Fantasy in 2004. The aesthetically beautiful melody seeps up a unique sense of dark tension; the early UNiXX was much like Post Punk, Noise Pop and Brit Rock. In 2010, they released an even darker second album 7 Deadly Sins, which contains stronger treatment of noise. The CD release was followed by a nine-city tour in China. In June 2014, they brought their third album The Incomplete Circle and played their first gig in Taiwan.

Wu Tiao Ren (Folk)
Wu Tiao Ren is made up of Ah Mau, Yan Fo and Deng Boyu. They have won seven music awards with their debut folk album Xiancheng ji in 2009, and awarded as the Best Band and Best Folk Artist at the 13th Chinese Music Media Awards after the release of their second album Yixie fengjing in 2012. With the combination of guitar, accordion and dialect, their works authentically express what they see, hear and think in their own town life and childhood memories. They have been hailed by the media as "the musical version of Hou Hsiao-hsien's film".
