Birmingham Symphonic Winds
Birmingham Symphonic Winds (BSW) was established in 1992 by its Musical Director, Keith Allen, to meet the large demand of players in the area wanting to perform with a high quality wind ensemble. Since then it has gained both a national and international reputation as one of the leading wind ensembles of its kind in the UK. BSW has received numerous accolades for its performances spanning the last 20 years. These include a Gold Award at the Finals of the National Concert Band Festival and gala concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester in both 1999 and 2004. BSW has represented the UK on several occasions including the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conferences held in Austria and Ireland and at the 4th International Wind Band Festival in Strasbourg, gaining first prize.

In 2003 BSW promoted British contemporary wind orchestra repertoire and became the first ever British ensemble to perform at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, playing to an audience of over 2,000. BSW was invited to perform at the opening concert of the Musik Triennale Koln in front of Cologne Cathedral in 2007 and present a concert of British music by Distinguished Concerts International New York at the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts, New York in 2011. BSW has performed over 250 different pieces of music, including a number of premiere performances, in more than 25 different venues in the UK, USA and Europe. In 2001, BSW presented a special 80th birthday concert for Sir Malcolm Arnold, in the presence of the composer. The orchestra's discography includesPremieres & Encores Vol. 1 ( 2007) and Vol. 2 (2008).

Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band
The Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band, trained and managed by the Music Office, was formed in 1978. The Band has successfully nurtured several generations of young musicians, creating a wider interest in and reception of band music in Hong Kong. The Band has had the privilege of performing with a number of distinguished guest musicians and bands both in Hong Kong and overseas, among which included the Central Band of the United Kingdom Royal Air Force, the Tanunda Band of Australia, the Regimental Band of the Green Jackets, the Scots Guards of the United Kingdom, the Narashino Girls' High School Band from Japan, the Baden-Württernberg Youth Wind Ensemble, and a number of youth bands from Canada, Japan, Australia, Philippines and Singapore.

Noted conductors like Bruce Pearson, Dr. Vondis Miller and Robert Lutt from the USA, Eric Banks from the UK, Felix Hauswirth from Switzerland, Russell Hammond from Australia and Li Fang-fang from Beijing had also contributed much to the refinement of the Band. The Band also went on highly successful concert tours and music exchanges overseas, including Japan, Korea, Hawaii, and Australia. Last summer, the band once again participated in the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival and won high acclaims from local critics and professional artists and composers.
