The winning works of the 12th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature include poetry reflecting the writer's thoughts on city life, an essay of observations on daily life with a strong depiction of local culture, a fiction work that describes the inner world of the underprivileged with the Cantonese dialect, children and youth literature on science and suspense fiction, and beautiful poems for children.

More than 120 books were nominated for the 12th Biennial Awards. The winner of the Biennial Award for Poetry Category is Chung Kwok-keung's "Everydayness", the winner of the Essay Category is Wu Yin-ching's "The Scent of the Shrimp Eggs", the winner of the Fiction Category is Wong Bik-wan's "Tales of a Valiant Man" and the winners of the Children and Youth Literature Category are Leung For-hing's "Ah Wing, the Secret Agent 29: Saving for the Catch" and Chor Wai's "The Night with Wings".

The Recommended Prize winner in the Poetry Category is Lui Wing-kai's "We Walk Still", the winner of the Essay Category is Cao Shu-ying's "Cartography of Time", the winner of the Fiction Category is Leung Ban-leung's "Whispers: Collected Stories of Ban Leung", the winner of the Literary Criticism Category is Chu Yiu-wai and Wong Chi-wah's "Eighty Talks on Hong Kong Popular Lyrics" and the winner of the Children and Youth Literature Category is Chu Pu-sun's "Our Poor Happy Life".

The 12th Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature covers outstanding books written by Hong Kong writers that were published in Hong Kong for the first time in 2011 and 2012. The event aims to encourage Hong Kong writers' pursuit of excellence, urge local publishers to publish quality literary books and promote appreciation of Chinese literature.
