香港出生的李嘉龄七岁开始师随香港演艺学院键盘系高级讲师黄懿伦,在她的悉心指导下完成音乐学士课程。李嘉龄于2003年获颁香港赛马会音乐及舞蹈信托基金及万瑞庭奖学金,前往德国汉诺威音乐及戏剧学院深造,师随瓦尔狄。

李嘉龄的卓越琴技早已被公认。她获取的奖项包括1999年美国盐湖城珍娜·芭侯雅青年艺术家国际钢琴比赛亚军、2002年日本滨松国际钢琴学院比赛冠军、2003年第三届SEILER国际钢琴比赛冠军及美国多罗菲·麦康西艺术家成就奖,因此得在纽约卡奈基音乐厅首演。2005年李嘉龄于波兰华沙第15届萧邦国际钢琴大赛赢得第六名,成为唯一获奖的女性及首位于该大赛获奖的香港人。同年她亦获得国际乐府大奖、第15届意大利国际协奏曲比赛季军及乐评和观众奖。

李嘉龄经常获邀到欧、美及亚洲等地演出,包括在日本巡回演奏,并由国际乐府安排在纽约、波士顿和巴黎举行独奏会。2006年1月应荷兰国际音乐节之邀请于芬兰、爱沙尼亚、立陶宛、斯洛伐克、捷克,荷兰的海牙和阿姆斯特丹(音乐厅)举行「新秀之旅」首演等。4月她在中国的长春及天津首次举行独奏会。2007年3月李嘉龄与大提琴家朱琳应香港艺术节之邀在香港大会堂举行一场大提琴与钢琴二重奏演奏会。此外她亦曾应邀在多个国际音乐节演出,如波兰国际萧邦音乐节及格旦斯克音乐节、意大利阿西西音乐节、德国Meissen钢琴音乐节、纽约国际键琴学院音乐节、美国鲍登国际音乐节等。

除独奏外李嘉龄亦经常参与室乐演出,并曾与多个著名乐团合作,包括BBC威尔斯乐团、中国爱乐乐团、以色列爱乐乐团、波兰华沙爱乐乐团、昆士兰爱乐乐团、日本仙台爱乐乐团、上海交响乐团、曼谷交响乐团、波兰电台阿玛狄斯室乐团及香港小交响乐团等。她亦多次为香港电台第四台独奏及室乐节目录音。在香港电台电视部制作广受好评的《华人青年演艺家系列2006》,李嘉龄是其中一位获专题介绍的杰出华人青年音乐家。2007年,她获邀参与灌录香港电台第四台为庆祝香港回归十周年制作唱片《非凡响》及在同系列节目中接受访问和演出。同年9月及10月,在香港特别行政区政府驻柏林及伦敦经济贸易办事处安排下,李嘉龄代表香港到匈牙利、英国和芬兰作文化交流及巡回演出。为表彰她在音乐上所取得的成就及推动艺术文化活动的杰出表现,香港民政事务局于2004年颁发嘉许状予李嘉龄。她于2006年再获颁行政长官社区服务奖状。

李嘉龄第一张镭射唱片于2005年底在华沙灌录,2007年初由波兰的国立萧邦学社发行。她第二张镭射唱片于2007年2月由拿索斯唱片公司灌录,并于2008年中发行。

Born in Hong Kong, Colleen Lee was trained locally at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage of Eleanor Wong from the age of seven. Since 2003, she has been studying with Arie Vardi at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, Germany on scholarships from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music & Dance Fund and Bernard Van Zuiden Music Fund.

In 2005, Lee won the Sixth Prize at the 15th International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition (the only female laureate and the first Hong Kong pianist to reach the final of this prestigious competition). In the same year, she received the Pro Musicis International Award as well as Third Place and Critic and Audience Prizes at the 15th Città di Cantù International Competition for Piano and Orchestra in Italy. Her earlier distinctions include First Prize at the International SEILER Piano Competition in Kitzingen, Germany (2003), Dorothy Mackenzie Artist Recognition Award (2003), First Prize at the 7th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition (2002) and Second Prize at the Gina Bachauer International Young Artists Competition in Salt Lake City USA (1999).

Lee has given recitals in Japan and through Pro Musicis in New York, Boston and Paris. She made her débuts in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Czech, The Hague and Amsterdam (Concertgebouw) under the "New Masters on Tour" series presented by The International Holland Music Sessions. In April 2006, she made her début recitals in China (Changchun and Tianjin). Lee has also been featured at several international music festivals in recent seasons including the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój and Gdańsk in Poland, Assisi International Piano Festival in Italy, Pianoforte-Festival Meissen in Germany, International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York, Bowdoin International Music Festival and the 2007 Hong Kong Arts Festival. In addition to her solo work, she has a keen interest in chamber music and has taken part in chamber performances on several occasions in Hong Kong and Europe.

As a soloist, Lee has collaborated with many international orchestras including the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Bangkok Symphony Orchestra, Polish Radio Amadeus Chamber Orchestra and Hong Kong Sinfonietta, among others.

Lee has recorded regularly for Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) Radio 4 for both recitals and chamber programmes. She was also one of the artists featured in the acclaimed Young Chinese Performers documentary series in 2006 and was one of the ten outstanding Hong Kong musicians and ensembles featured in the CD and programme called "Gifted" presented by RTHK to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong SAR in July 2007. In addition, Lee performed in a series of concerts in Hungary (Budapest), United Kingdom (London, Newcastle and Glasgow) and Finland (Helsinki) in September and October of the same year, as part of a cultural exchange programme organised by the HKSAR Economic Trade Offices in Berlin and London. In recognition of her outstanding achievements in music and the promotion of arts and culture, she was awarded the Commendation by the Home Affairs Bureau in 2004 and the Commendation for Community Service by the Chief Executive in 2006.

Lee's début CD, an all-Chopin album recorded in Warsaw on a Pleyel Piano, was issued by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in 2006. She recorded her second CD (Scarlatti Sonatas) for Naxos in February 2007, for which she was praised by producer Michael Ponder for her "refined, immaculate and musical playing".
