Another idol from the coveted 1982 debut group – though while she wouldn’t reach complete mainstream success her peers would, the trajectory of her career is still one to be studied nonetheless, even if it lasted for just a brief moment.
Before her debut, she was already well-versed with the guitar and piano and was in a band when she was in junior high school as she professed to want to be a rockstar. In 1980, she was scouted by her still-current entertainment agency, Hirata Office, which led to her first foray in the entertainment industry through a modelling gig for Shiseido’s Shower Cologne (which she co-starred with Yoshimi Iwasaki) – though this wasn’t her main interest. After this, she continued gaining experience by being program assistants and eventually also gaining her debut as an actress by the end of 1981.
She finally made her debut as a singer in 1982, though her debut single fell more in the rising trend of techno kayo which wouldn’t really last long in her repertoire. Going with her wishes, the production staff gradually switched to having more of a pop-rock flavour to her songs which already occurred by her next single (with a new version of her debut single as the B-side), though her representative single would be an anime tie-in.
As she leaned more to rock than an orthodox idol, all remnants of the latter would fade by 1984 as after a few albums and singles, she left Victor Entertainment and transferred to the now defunct TDK Core a year later (her music from this era is currently managed by Nippon Columbia). With this, she fully transitioned to as a full-fledged singer-songwriter – but sadly, after a few releases, she was forced to retire from singing by the end of 1986 due to vocal cord issues that affected her to the point she had to cough up blood in-between performances at the time. However, she would continue to write more music (one of them a now rare, commissioned indie single release recorded by Yasuko Kuwata for a drink company) until the end of the decade when she left the industry for good.
She has since married and had children and also made a comeback in 2002 to the industry as an actress and talent. She also sang her representative single during a TV event in 2012. I really do wish that one day, she’ll be back in the concert stage as I’m sure she misses doing what she truly loves… rocking it out! So maybe one day… we’ll see her in action – but for now, please enjoy! 🙂
1982年にデビューした、誰もが憧れるアイドルグループ出身のもう一人のアイドル。他のメンバーのように完全に主流の成功を収めることはなかったものの、たとえそれがほんの一瞬のことであったとしても、彼女のキャリアの軌跡は依然として注目に値する。
デビュー前からギターとピアノに精通しており、中学生の頃にはロックスター志望を公言し、バンド活動もしていた。1980年、現在も所属する芸能事務所「ヒラタオフィス」にスカウトされ、資生堂のシャワーコロン（岩崎良美と共演）のモデルとして芸能界デビューを果たす。もっとも、これが彼女の主な関心事だったわけではない。その後、彼女は番組アシスタントとして経験を積み、1981年末には女優としてもデビューを果たした。
1982年には歌手デビューを果たしたが、デビューシングルはテクノ歌謡の隆盛を背景にしたもので、彼女のレパートリーの中では長くは続かなかった。彼女の意向を受け、制作スタッフは徐々にポップロック色の強い楽曲へと移行していき、次のシングル（カップリングにはデビューシングルの新バージョンが収録）ではその傾向が顕著になった。しかし、彼女の代表作はアニメタイアップシングルとなった。
彼女は正統派アイドルよりもロックに傾倒していたため、数枚のアルバムとシングルをリリースした後、1984年までに正統派アイドルの面影はすべて薄れ、ビクターエンタテインメントを離れ、1年後には今は解散したTDKコアに移籍した（この時代の彼女の楽曲は現在、日本コロムビアが管理している）。これにより、彼女は完全に一人前のシンガーソングライターへと転向したが、残念なことに、数枚のアルバムをリリースした後、1986年末に声帯の問題により歌手としての活動を引退せざるを得なくなった。その問題は当時、パフォーマンスの合間に血を吐かざるを得ないほどだった。しかし、彼女は80年代末まで楽曲制作を続け（その中には、今では珍しい、桑田康子が飲料会社のためにレコーディングしたインディーズシングルも含まれています）、80年代末に業界を去るまで活動を続けました。
その後、彼女は結婚して子供をもうけ、2002年には女優兼タレントとして業界に復帰しました。2012年にはテレビイベントで代表曲を歌い上げました。いつかコンサートのステージに戻ってきてくれることを心から願っています。きっと彼女は、心から好きなこと、つまりロックを演奏することを恋しく思っているはずですから！いつか…彼女の活躍が見られる日が来るかもしれませんね。でも今は、どうぞお楽しみに！ 🙂
