Was chatting with a friend about 7th Dragon 2020-II today, and it made me peek at it again after about a decade. Not quite in the mood for replaying it from scratch, so I decided to just swap my character’s voices just to see how everyone sounds. I beat this with a party of Samurai (Tomokazu Sugita), Idol (Kuwashima Houko) and Psychic (Saitou Chiwa), though I did grind a side party of Hacker (Toyosaki Aki), Trickster (Toyoguchi Megumi) and Satou Rina (Destroyer) just for completion. However, there’s a total of 40 voice actors (20 men, 20 women), so there’s a lot of voice I’ve not gotten to hear. My initial plans were to just make an Ougi compilation for all of the characters involved, but I decided to listen and see how different their voice samples were, and after even just a run with Kanazawa Hana and Saitou Chiwa, I’ve decided I wanted to record at least some of these.
Now with 6 classes (Samurai, Trickster, Destroyer, Psychic, Hacker and Idol) and a total of 40 voice actors (20 men and 20 ladies), it adds up to a whopping total of 240 videos. It’s quite possible I’ll run out of steam either partially or completely through the attempt to record all of these, so I’m not promising I’ll manage to finish. We’ll see where I end up. For now, I’ll start the the ladies and go through all the Samurai variants. We’ll see if I decide to go on to male Samurai after, or if I decide to pick another class with the ladies. I’ll timestamp the moves where possible, names listed in Japanese with English names based on the English patched version around.
I’ve junked many recordings tonight before settling on the current format. I wasn’t planning on pausing between fights because I’d like to record 修羅の貫付け Carnage Strike, and it felt real weird as well cutting from the victory screen suddenly to another fight. However, recording as is does increase the amount of time you’ll have to wait for the next fight, as well as any time spent sitting through our Samurai triggering Carnage Strike repeatedly. I settled on the following compromise, which is to pause the recording after every fight until the enemy indicator is red, until Carnage Strike triggers. Then the rest will just be skipping to the next fight, outside of any clumsiness on my side with the pause button. That said, there’s still time in between enemy attack animations and other things, so this is about the best I’m willing to provide.
I had no real impressions on Hanakana’s Samurai, it might have been burnout after rerecording this so many times.
A few other points of note :
(1) The AUTO skill 憤怒の刃 Blade of Rage supposed triggers at the end of the round if you have a party member KOed during the round itself. I tried this and nothing happened, so I’m not going to even try for this.
(2) Samurai start with their blades drawn. They cannot use IAI skills in this stance. They can use SWITCH moves to switch to an Iai stance instead, and there’s moves from the Iai stance to switch back.
(3) Some of the moves hit all enemies, I’m not going to go out of my way to demonstrate this during the recording as this is just for voice samples as well as just showing off the attack animation.
(4) Around 5:58, I show off the accessory that starts your Samurai in Iai stance at the start of combat
(5) 風林重ね Woodwind Duet is an elemental chaser, so you need other party members to throw elemental attacks (the Psychic’s elemental spells and the Idol’s sonic attacks) to see an attack animation. Initially I felt this was too much of a hassle, but I decided to put in the effort in the end and thus create a Psychic just for this. In future Samurai videos, this will likely be the last attack showcased, since I’ll have to pick up another party member just for this.
