About This Programme
March 2003 - the eve of the American and British offensive in Iraq and, for the first time since 1945, Japan rejoins the ranks of armed forces. But for Tokyo adolescents nothing much changes, life drifts on.
Already a hit at major international festivals, Five Days in March is written and directed by chelfitsch founder, Toshiki Okada, and has won many honours including the prestigious Kishida Kunio Drama Award. With poetic elegance and a darkly humorous flair, this heady concoction of contemporary colloquial Japanese, choreographed fidgeting gestures and disjointed, interwoven narratives explore the disorientation of Japan's "no job, no income" Generation N.
