About This Programme
The iconic film of the 20th century brought to the stage by British theatre legend Steven Berkoff.

Steven Berkoff, internationally renowned British actor and director, brings the classic story of the guy who "coulda been a contender" - On the Waterfront - to the stage. Directing a strong ensemble with his trademark style of bold physical theatre, he will also play the Mob boss Johnny Friendly.

Best known for the 1954 film starring Marlon Brando which won eight Oscars, On the Waterfront is set in New York in the 1950s, where the dock workers' unions are in the stranglehold of the Mob. Terry, a boxing hopeful turned longshoreman, is unwittingly implicated in a murder. When he falls in love with the dead's beautiful sister, he starts to question where his loyalties lie.

Grappling with love and death, loyalty and betrayal, hard labour and easy money, the law and the Mob, On the Waterfront is the poignant tale of a man who finally finds his voice and stands up for his beliefs.

Steven Berkoff
Honoured with a Total Theatre "Lifetime Achievement Award" Steven Berkoff is a prolific British director and actor on stage and screen. His movie acting credits include A Clockwork Orange, Beverly Hills Cop, Rambo and the James Bond film Octopussy.
