About This Programme
No one rivals Andreas Scholl in the art of male high-voice singing today. His widespread popularity manifests through extraordinary feats - from being possibly the only countertenor with a "best of" compilation to being the first countertenor to sing at the Last Night of the Proms (2005) since the Proms started in 1895.
Full of warmth, humanity and wit, Scholl's recordings and live performances continually win lavish praise from critics and public alike, and numerous prizes including the Gramophone and the Classic Brit awards.
An outstanding recital artist, lutenist Edin Karamazov is also a consummate interpreter and master technician of numerous stringed instruments. His thrilling performances have garnered rave reviews worldwide.
Scholl and Karamazov will perform a feast of 16th and 17th century lute songs selected from their acclaimed recording A Musicall Banquet. Programme includes songs by John Dowland, the greatest English composer of lute music, plus English, French, Spanish and Italian airs by Holborne, Guédron, Caccini and their contemporaries.
